Frans Masereel 1920 82p 5 x 7
Along with Lynd Ward, Frans Masereel helped establish wordless novels (that could be read by almost anyone) and later inspired graphic novels. Though not a continuous narrative like other works of Masereel, we see the tensions of the 1920s industrial city flowing from one ‘poem’ to the next: work, poverty, ruling class decadence, brothels, protests, machinery, isolation, and moments of clarity, love, inspiration and rebellion.
